Ecommerce Unlocked 2021: A Round Up
It happened! After Covid scuppered our plans more than once, we finally held our long-anticipated Ecommerce Unlocked event in Exeter on Friday 10th September. 🥳
It was a day full of learning, laughter and networking, and a fantastic chance to meet ecommerce friends old and new. Thank you to everyone who came along and made the event such a special occasion. We hope you left with all the strategies, advice and new contacts you need to accelerate your digital growth in Q4 and beyond!
ICYMI, a summary of the day
Our stellar line-up of speakers certainly didn’t disappoint, delivering four inspirational talks brimming with industry insights and knowledge.
Kicking things off on the main stage was Ben Parr, award-winning tech pundit and President and Co-Founder of Octane AI, who provided a keynote session packed full of actionable advice on how to survive the “cookiepocalypse”.
Ben explained how retailers can leverage zero-party data to create truly personalised digital experiences for their customers - experiences that will keep shoppers coming back for more. Download his presentation deck below.
We then heard from Swanky Australia’s very own Sean Clanchy and Oscar Thomas as they discussed the must-have mindset of the modern ecommerce manager, including why the test-and-learn approach is so important for today's online retailers.
Our Managing Director down under then tuned in live from Toowoomba in Queensland for a Q&A session that delved into business growth more generally. He was joined by Swanky’s Founder and Chief Future Officer, Dan McIvor.
Next up on the main stage were our esteemed brand panellists, representing some of the South West’s most successful retailers. Mark Moody from Riverford Organic Farmers, The Recycled Candle Company’s Richard Hills-Ingyon and Sargon Latchin, and Tim Ryan from Seasalt were joined by Swanky’s Dan McIvor and event host Keir Whitaker, sharing how they all adapted to the changing customer behaviours throughout the pandemic, as well as their priorities moving forwards into Q4. It was fascinating to compare experiences across a range of industries!
After everyone had refuelled with some lunch, Shopify Plus, MindfulCommerce, Gorgias and Swanky kicked off the afternoon’s masterclass series. These 30-minute sessions were a chance for delegates to deep-dive into the areas of ecommerce that interest them most and take home practical strategies that they can implement on their own online stores. There were plenty of engaging discussions across the sessions, which covered topics from sustainability and shipping to product discovery and payment solutions.
Also hosting masterclasses throughout the afternoon were Octane AI, Webtrends Optimize, LoyaltyLion, ReCharge, ShipStation, Airwallex, Dotdigital, Klevu, Klarna, and Brightpearl.
Meanwhile, delegates were free to explore the expo area and enjoy 1:1 conversations with solution providers about their ecommerce tech stacks. We were also offering live demos of Shopify point of sale technology in our Swanky boutique, which was stocked with products from our clients Bare Biology, The Recycled Candle Company, YuMove and Crep Protect.
Our final two main stage sessions were held by Sandeep Shah, Product Director at Webtrends Optimize, and Chloë Thomas, Founder and Host of the award-winning eCommerce MasterPlan podcast.
Sandeep delved into the world of conversion rate optimisation and personalisation, sharing tips and tactics to help ecommerce stores thrive amongst fierce competition, whilst Chloë shared some of her favourite bricks and clicks success stories, before discussing proactive ecommerce marketing strategies to boost acquisition and retention. We rounded off the day with some much-needed in-person networking and drinks in the expo area, with a few races on the Scalextric track thrown in for good measure!
